Grooming Gear by FIX YOUR LID
Tonight we’re unboxing some goodies from the folks at “Fix Your Lid”. I was drawn in by their fun skull dude and the price point of their products. This line is sold at TARGET in the US and the products shown here are all sold under $7. The packaging and presentation is comparable to many more expensive options. We’ll put these products to the test and see what we get. Like any Gentleman there are times where my budget might be tight and if I can save a few bucks on my grooming expenses without sacrificing quality, why not?! If the Style4men.ca experience has shown me anything it is that cost is not always a direct correlation to performance. Finding what works for you is the only objective.
BTW – These products are Cruelty Free. Not always a given, but always appreciated.
Following up on the unboxing, I tried the shampoo and conditioner this morning. So how was it you ask?
The shampoo has a nice fresh scent. The ingredient list mentions peppermint and menthol, but it’s nothing overpowering. I used perhaps the size of a nickel. The shampoo suds up nicely and does a thorough cleaning. The “Totally Clean” name is appropriate. I was washing out one day’s worth of water based pomade. My hair felt clean but not entirely stripped of everything like some of the “deep cleaners” out there. Having a longer uppercut, I am pretty demanding of shampoo and I appreciate a shampoo with a good level of oil of conditioning ingredients to nourish my mope while preventing things from also getting too tangled. I would say it that this is a good middle of the run option. It does a better job than many other similarly priced shampoos.
Because of my longer uppercut, the conditioner is really the product that has to perform in my opinion. The scent is similar to the shampoo but this time only peppermint is listed. That said there is definitely a nice cooling/tingling party happening. Since the conditioner is to be left in for a few minutes while the shampoo is just a quickie, I obviously felt it more. It’s cool, but it doesn’t pass that line where things become unpleasant and messing up your shower time.
The conditioner is very liquidy, something a tad uncommon. Conditioners tend to be creamy or thicker. This doesn’t mean it didn’t do a good job, just that it was different. Again, I will say that this is a good middle of the run option as it restored a good level of moisture to my scalp and hair, but because of my hair’s length I would have liked a touch more moisturizing effect.
The Fix Your Lid pomade can be considered as a classic pomade where shine is the main objective. The hold id light to medium. Very easy to work with and because of its higher oil content, you will get better results blending it into dry hair. The feel in hair in quite agreeable, not sticky and the oil content is marginally noticeable. The hold duration is a couple of hours before needing some combing. Granted I have a long uppercut and wave like a California beach.
Scent wise, there is a very faint vanilla aroma. Aside from that it is nearly odorless.

If you are looking for a classic type water based pomade with a high shine, this will be an affordable option.
Fix Your Lid does an excellent job with their product presentation. The black containers with the textured printing bring a nice touch. These 2 products will do very well in short hair, thus making them practical and affordable solutions for most guys. Bottom line, the Totally Clean shampoo and Totally Strong conditioner are comparable to more expensive options out there making them a worthy option to explore.
