InstagramYep, we are on Instagram and are having a blast.  Join us!  The content is a little different since some coverage lends itself better to that platform.

Like us and follow us!

Just like everyone doing product reviews, the goal Just like everyone doing product reviews, the goal is to reach as many people as possible. And ideally, reach the right audience. The folks who are most likely to be interested by what I am featuring.

A huge part of that is the music component.  Having the right music will make or break a video IMO. The available library on Instagram is mind blogling and I love doing REEL here because of that.

At first I was trying to work with music that was wide reaching while still fitting the mood of what I was presenting.  Over time I used different strategies but following this core objective.

What I’ve come to realize is that the combination of music and tags is such that there is a good portion of hit and miss.  Some folks are seeing my reels because of the tags and others because of the music selection.  Rarely do the 2 line up perfectly.

I gauge that by the number of likes versus the number of views/plays. 2000 views but only 10 likes would mean that folks saw my reel because of the music and they probably went WTF is this?

A reel with 300 plays and 40 likes tells me that folks went, "Yeah I dig this stuff, Imma gonna follow this guy!"

So at this point, the new strategy is to use whatever music fits the vibe of the reel, period. Regardless if it is an unknown or forgotten artist. Does it convey the right mood, will be the only criteria.

Stay Slick!

Why do I do what I do?   I get this question fair Why do I do what I do?

I get this question fairly often.  It goes without saying that I am passionate about grooming and helping folks find the best products for their budget is a big part of it.  After years of things being like a tomb, the men’s grooming space has been going in overdrive with countless new things popping up every day. I feel like a kid on Christmas night.

Then there is the whole creative visual aspect of presenting the product, what it does, how to use it…  As an amateur photographer, this side of thing is just as much fun.

I honestly can’t say which part is my favorite:
• Getting a product (I am like Pavlov’s dog when the doorbell rings)
• Trying the product
• Doing the photo session

Suffice to say that as long as you guys are there and inspiration comes, STYLE4MEN.CA will deliver!

…I’ll have to buy another bottle…?!

Sticking with the whole prohibition vibe, the bottle looks like a large mickey of whiskey.  I caught a $20 sale on amazon for 532 ml, which was a great deal considering the type of product you are getting.

I have been a fan of 18.21 since I tried their hair pomades a few years back, this body wash further seals that.

THE CHERRY ON TOP @authenticity.perfumes A few mo THE CHERRY ON TOP
@authenticity.perfumes

A few months back my friends at Authenticity Perfumes (AP) let it slip that they were working on a cherry based fragrance.  Being a huge fan of cherry fragrances and AP, I was instantly psyched.

Here I am with a bottle and it was love at first spray!  That said, I had to wear it a number of days to wrap my nose around what is going on.  This is cherry, but not “IN YO FACE”!

My first impressions were: cherry, incents and amber.

As per AP:
• TOP: cherry, strawberry, lemon, banana, grapes
• MID: ylang-ylang, salty sea air
• BASE: cotton candy, vanilla

It is sweet, fresh, complex, playful, mature but not old.  The fresh aspect is very interesting as cherries tend to offer a deep vibe.  This is most likely accomplished with the lemon, grapes and salty sea air.

What I initially thought was incent as a darker powdery aura which curves the cherry and gives it an edge of distinction or maturity, is perhaps the ylang-ylang.

The cherry is obvious, but not as to be dominating.  The other participants show their presence and influence things for the better.  Instead of being a deep cherry scent, this is a lighter alternative.

The arrangement of fruit notes are more of a balancing act.  The cherry is balanced by the grape, the strawberry balances the banana and in the middle of it all there is a touch of bitterness brought in by the lemon.

What I love about Cherry Land is that it’s a very different “cherry” fragrance to let’s say Lost Cherry by Tom Ford, which is beautiful but that mostly focusses on the marinated cherry angle.  Cherry Land is one of the more subtle cherry fragrances I have worn.

With 3-4 sprays, projection is good, but not loud.  This is a warm fragrance that suggests intimacy.  Longevity? As with all Authenticity Perfumes, consider yourself smelling fantastic for the day.

My take away here, Cherry Land is winner that can be worn in so many occasions that it could just be your go-to bottle for everything.  Wearing Cherry Land brings me to a happy and peaceful place.

Another home run by Authenticity Perfumes!

My well planned out Instagram reel using the best time block got 63 hits.

Could this be a sign of a shifting interest for social media?

Regardless, for this campaign TikTok takes the medal.

Finally getting to writing my reviews.  If you ca Finally getting to writing my reviews.  If you caught the unboxing of LUNAR’S  BRIZA DE ROZARITO, here is the follow up detailed review.

@lunar_n_co

BRIZA DE ROZARITO is an inspired fragrance by Creed’s Virgin Island Water.  Inspired fragrances are an interesting and affordable way of getting a similar if not identical fragrance to their inspiration.  To date, I have had excellent success with such perfumes.

As a reference, a 100 ml bottle of Creed’s Virgin Island Water goes for $300-$550, compared to $86 for a 55 ml bottle of LUNAR ($172 for 110 ml).  Without getting into a deep debate on pricing, I will simply say that a bottle of Creed is well beyond my wallet, but I still like to smell fantastic.

This is a Parfum Extract and as such you are getting a very high concentration of actual parfum.  If you are used to an eau de toilette, that is only 5-15% of fragrance.  A Parfum extract is a concentration of 20-40%.  Worlds apart!

Presentation wise, LUNAR checks all the boxes:
• Gorgeous black box with a magnet latch
• Beautiful dark amber glass bottle with a solid wood cap
• Black and gold label

Up front, I am loving this arrangement.  With notes of Jamaican lime, hibiscus and Sicilian mandarin, this has an obvious fruity sweet vibe.  That said, the lime gives it a classic aura and the wood wraps it in a mature elegance.  Perfectly loveable!

As per Lunar, the notes are: Sicilian White Bergamot, Jamaican Lime, Sicilian Mandarin, Hibiscus, Ylang Ylang, Indian Jasmine, Tropical Wood

Longevity: Think 4-7 hours with 3 sprays.
Projection: Mrs. Style4men approved this from almost 2 meters away.

This beauty gets 5 stars from us!

ALL NATURAL VINTAGE GREASE VIBE @educatedbeards S ALL NATURAL VINTAGE GREASE VIBE
@educatedbeards

So you are looking for a natural based pomade that behaves like an old-school heavy grease?!  Then this might be the perfect pomade for you!

HIGHLIGHTS:
• All natural ingredient list
• Classic heavy hold
• No petro-chemicals
• Easy to work with/blend in

Although this is essentially an oil based product, the results are not as shiny as I might have expected.  In fact, one might say that this is just 1 notch above a matte finish.

In my opinion the Confident Hold by Educated Beard is very close to a classic heavy hold you would get from a traditional grease pomade.

The pomade somewhat weights the hair down to keep things in place.  It offers a clean finish while being nice to touch - this won't turn your partner off.  The pomade is not overly sticky and as such there is no fear of helmet hair.

For my unruly mope, this is a medium hold.

Washing is comparable to a water based pomade as the natural oils break down well.  Rest assured that this is nothing like an old-school grease.

On a scale of 1 - 5:
• Hold: 4
• Scent: Unscented
• Shine: 2.5
• Texture: 5
• Feel in hair: 5
• Facility to wash out: 4

Men of all ages need to be concerned about what you are putting in your hair if you want to keep it.  I am thrilled that over the past few years there have been a number of healthier options making it to market.

Educated Beards has done a great job with this one as it is a worthy substitute to grease without toning down the Rock'n Roll!

DEVIL’S DELIGHT IN THE SHOWER   @billyjealousy DEVIL’S DELIGHT IN THE SHOWER

@billyjealousy
@obsco

Body wash is a product category that gets little love, but having a good one will for sure help put the day on the right track.

The latest one on the S4M test bench is the Devil’s Delight by Billy Jealousy!

Billy Jealousy is a luxury men’s grooming brand for the stylish bad boys!  To date everything I have tried from them has been something to write about.

During my last visit at my favorite Barbershop supply store, OBSCO, I picked up a bottle!

At a bit over $20 for a 236 ml, it isn’t a cheap option and OBSCO has the best price I have come across.

So what do you get?  Up front, an absolutely amazing smell!  Devil’s Delight is one of Billy Jealousy signature scent that is composed of Black Pepper and Sandalwood.  Think sweet and devilish!  It certainly puts me in the right mood to face the day!

The body wash comes out more like a cream that lathers well.  I use about the size of a Canadian dollar to clean up a 6’, 220 lb mofo!

Especially during winter, but it’s a recurring issue, I have dry skin so finding a body wash that doesn’t aggravate things and in fact helps the situation is not always a given.  Devil’s Delight does an excellent job of rehydrating my skin.  No itchiness or irritation during the day which makes this a preferred solution.

As much as I enjoy Billy Jealousy’s signature scent and skin benefits, there are 2 cons:
• Because of the higher oil content in the formulation, it tends to require more effort to rinse off.
• The price point!  At $20 / 200 ml this is about half the quantity of most body washes for double the price.

That said, like in so many cases, you get what you pay for and getting a product that is smoother on your skin will cost you. Being a water sign, having to stay in the shower a moment longer is by no means a deal breaker!

In short, Devil’s Delight Body Wash by Billy Jealousy is that next level shower partner.  Umm, come to think of it, lets add Mrs. Style4men to.
PART 2 – T&H SANDALWOOD AFTERSHAVE BALM   @true PART 2 – T&H SANDALWOOD AFTERSHAVE BALM

@truefittandhill.usa

T&H offers this scent in both a traditional splash as a well in a balm.  My skin being somewhat sensitive, I am glad to be working with the balm. It is a luxurious cream that is absorbed quickly by the skin.  Easy and mess-free!

Note that the shaving cream was scented with the 1805 fragrance and although I like to keep things simple during the shave, I was pleased that the 1805 and Sandalwood completed each other and made lovely shaving companions.

Even though I experienced a perfect shave, it still remains a difficult event for your mug and restoring harmony is the objective.  This balm is both refreshing and soothing.  Any remnant heat is immediately dissipated and whatever irritation there might be is just as quickly forgotten.  The cooling velvet experience is the perfect finishing touch.

Aside from being a skin appeaser, this product was an eye opener for the beauty of the sandalwood fragrance. Being a fan of sweet and gourmand aromas, sandalwood is obviously among my favorites.  That said, not all sandalwood are the same.

In fact, going forward this is now my new reference for sandalwood.

As per T&H, the notes are:
• Sandalwood
• Tonka
• Cedarwood
• Lavender
• Thyme
• Jasmin
• Pineapple
• Melon
• Lemon
• Bergamot

The result is a subtle and refined dance of deep, slightly woody sweetness.  It is delightful!  In so many words, the T&H Sandalwood aftershave balm is worthy of a king!

In closing, the T&H 1805 Shaving cream and Sandalwood Aftershave Balm duo is something that every Wet Shaver should experience.
PART 1 – TRUEFITT & HILL 1805 SHAVING CREAM @tr PART 1 – TRUEFITT & HILL 1805 SHAVING CREAM

@truefittandhill.usa

Following up on the unboxing of the Truefitt & Hill (T&H) shaving cream and aftershave balm, here is the detailed review.

Since there is lot’s to cover, I will be doing this in 2 posts:
• Shaving Cream
• Aftershave Balm

First off, T&H  holds the record for the oldest established barbershop dating back to 1805.  The company has also held a Royal Warrant to the royal household and still groomed H.R.M Prince Philip until his recent passing.

Not only does T&H have a long lineage and experience crafting grooming products, but they literally made it to the top and I am thrilled to be exploring this range.

Presentation and packaging is the definition of classic elegance.  There will be no confusion as to what you have in your hands.

I wanted to start my immersion in the T&H world with a core product like their shaving cream.  Opening the 1805 shaving cream jar did not disappoint and revealed a beautifully rich and thick cream.  As you saw in the reel it lathered with next to no effort.  Since the product is so creamy you could bypass the shaving brush, but you would miss out on the ritual and lose a tad of what the water adds to the cream.

I scooped some out with my brush and proceeded to work it in my lather bowl where it gained in volume and creaminess with just a few circular motions.

The cream adhered perfectly to my skin and formed an insulated barrier to trap the leftover heat and moisture from the shower.

The cream as a high level of oil which helps the blade glide effortlessly.  Rinsing the razor in between passes was ideal as the cream simply dissolved under a gentle hot water stream.  Finally cleaning up with a wet wash cloth was straight forward and left my mug feeling like I just experienced a Master Barber shave.

The first fragrance I am exploring is F*CK MONDAYS.  You like where this is going too, right?

It goes without saying that a fragrance has to be experience to be appreciated, but to get to that a certain mystery and attraction has to be sparked.  Confessions of a Rebel has embraced an image of contrast, opposite and duality.  The main part of the label is white with black text, while the second half is its opposite in every way.

With covid giving signs of slowing down and the world opening up again, we are all long overdue for one hell of a party.  In fact probably a year’s worth of parties.  We need to celebrate to the point where we forget that for the last 25 months, everyday has looked the same.  Get to the point where we simply say “FU*CK MONDAYS”.

Everything about this fragrance screams reset!  It’s fresh, sweet, a bit fruity and easy!  After a weekend of fun, this is the bottle you will reach for to get you through the day ahead.

As per the Rebel, the main notes are:
• Bergamot
• Apple
• Peach Skin
• Clary Sage
• Sandalwood

To my nose the apple and peach bring that element of fresh-newness.  While the bergamot and sandalwood gives that strong-classic foundation. Last but not least, the clary sage is perhaps what creates the element of mystery with a touch of dirty sweetness.

All together, it’s a fresh, fun, young fragrance that will find many lovers.  I see it as a day-starter to rise out of the haze and stand up to take on another day.  It has a contagious happy persona that I can’t resist!  It’s the scented version of that favorite vinyl you put on to get you going. You could even say that it’s like a shower in a bottle! Not that I would skip the shower, but you get it!
