Dry Tortugas by The Roosevelts Beard Co.

My last post on Instagram was doing a very brief overview of solid colognes.  Here is the first of the spotlight features covering these colognes; Dry Tortugas by The Roosevelts Beard Company.  There are a number of things I like about this product.  As is often the case, the success of a product can be found in the small details.  So far, all of the solid colognes I have tried have been in a cool vintage like rectangular thin can.  The closing and opening solution was a sliding lid.  Super simple and efficient! And I personally love that vintage metal touch.  That said, this is not the only solution and the folks at Roosevelts have applied a twisting lip balm stick like solution.  My first reaction was; how ingenious?!

This brings me to a completely unrelated facts but very important when considering solid colognes.  The stick is incredibly small at 4.25 g.  This is very similar to a small lip balm stick.  When compared to a bottle of cologne this literally sound like a joke!  The reason this is no joke and that it works, is because the fragrance is locked in an oil/wax solid substance and when it is applied, nothing is wasted.  You therefore use considerably less product per application.

The fact that the aroma is held with a wax and oil concoction also means that there is no alcohol and no stabilizers. If you have allergies or skin ailments you already know where I am going with this.  Yeah – no chemicals!  This is something you can use without fearing a reaction.

I am impressed to report that this stick only has 3 ingredients: jojoba oil, beeswax and fragrance.  You should know that jojoba oil is a total skin care rock star.  I might be repeating myself here, but it doesn’t get old.

Typically, the fragrances in a solid cologne are derived from essentials oils.  Obviously, I am not privy to the production secret of the Roosevelts, but we can assume that they follow in this pattern.  Essential oils are well known for their wide range of benefits, but that is a topic beyond the scope of this review and you might like to research this topic.

OK enough dancing around the pot; what does is it smell like?!  I will start real wide and state that it smells good!  I liked it and our Asthmatic Mrs. Style4men.ca also liked it and was not incapacitated by it.

Here are the scents I can identify:

• Fresh cut greens
• Spice
• Sugar
• A very small touch of musk

The result is fresh and light while being manly.  It is new while being familiar.

Dry Tortugas is a Mexican National Park and this cologne is an homage to that haven.

This cologne is not loud.  More along the line of a confident and discreet gentleman.  The aroma stayed with me between 2 – 3 hours.  As mentioned above so little product is used and the packaging being incredibly portable I reapplied a little love for the afternoon.

Overall, I am totally impressed by this little gem.
