SHARP 7 AM Plus Super Platinum – Double Edge Blades
It’s been quite some time since I last tried a new brand or razor blades. At the beginning of my wet shaving adventure I tried new blades on a regular basis. As I found brands and models that performed best for me I gradually slowed down my quest. This was further compounded as I also started buying the blades I liked in multiples of 100.
Being a regular shaver, it was only a question of time before I started running out of my favorites and re-ordered 100 blades of the black steel carbon by Treet from RazorBladesClub.com. Their selection is phenomenal as is their pricing and shipping – In many cases, even better than anything on Amazon. An order of 100 blades was $17 CND with shipping. My last post of the Carbon steel Treet led to a collaboration with RazorBladesclub.com and they sent me a set of the SHARP 7 AM Plus Super Platinum to try out and review.
Test Stage:
- Job: 3 days of growth
- State: Coming out of the shower to soften my beard hair
- Shaving Cream: LEA
- Shaving Brush: The Holy Black, Synthetic hair brush
- Shaving Oil: None
- Razor: YAQI Katana handle + Melon head
- Aftershave: Clubman-Pinaud followed by Rocky Mountain Barber Co beard oil
Something I am enjoying about the YAQI Melon head is that the blade gets properly angled and is incredibly secure. The slight angle that is created by the top and bottom pieces brings out further hardness to the blade.
I initially thought that these blades were thinner than the carbon Treet which they are, but they are in line with the “steel” blade standards for thickness.
After prepping my mug, it’s onto the shave. I immediately got the sense that these were different. Perfect and even cutting! A single pass was doing the job. I normally need a few passes especially in the neck area. This was an incredibly efficient and comfortable shave.
I will further add that these blades offered a better experience in the Katana + Melon than the carbon Treet as the blade got slightly better positioning.
This blade offered that perfect balance of sharpness and rigidity. As you glide the blade over your mug a softer blade would start to dull fairly quickly and cause some tugging and/or unevenness. This often leads to needing multiple passes to get the job done. All of which easily causing nicks and cuts. Beard hair comes in different size and grouping and it is crucial to experience a good shave for the blade to be able to cut through your jungle effortlessly and uniformly.
On the topic of longevity, I have now shaved a total of 4 times with the same blade without experiencing any sort of degradation. Considering my usual pattern of using a blade only once, this is new territory.
Based on the packing information, these blades are made or have their headquarter in the United Arabian Emirate (UAE). As per Razor Blades Club, the country of origin in Bangladesh. Bottom line, the middle-east which is where the majority of the world razor blades are produced.
In closing, the SHARP 7 AM Plus Super Platinum is an impressive blade offering exceptional comfort and cutting power. By being able to slice though hair smoothly fewer passes are required, thus reducing the risk of skin irritation. For my sensitive skin and coarse hair these are finding their way on my podium.
