La Coupe For Men Styling Pomade – Extra Shine
You never know where and when you might find something of interest. During my last visit at my local Winner’s I took a peek in the beauty section. On that day I found a number of things, the ZIRH pre-shave oil and shaving cream as well as a little jar of pomade; La Coupe For Men Styling Pomade.
This product had come up in my searches before but it was rather expensive and somewhat of a hard to find pomade. I had pretty much ruled it out based on this limited availability and higher price tag. Coming across a jar at $5.99, I figured that it could certainly be tested.
The jar is only 60 g, considering that standard quantity is 100 g, it is rather small but not inadequate. The pomade has no colour and is foggy. It offers a very mild but sweet pop scent. Perhaps something like lemonade. It is made in Canada. Texture wise it is soft and very easy to work with. The labeling indicates: medium hold and high shine. Both are true, but mild hold might be a better description. The shine on the other hand is completely accurate.
Coming out of the shower with towel dried hair I gave this pomade a try. As mentioned above, it was very easy to work with and I was able to style my hair in my usual uppercut pomp look. Considering how soft the pomade was I was sure I wouldn’t be able to get any height, but I did. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I then moved on to my chores. Within perhaps 20 minutes, I was replacing my bangs every 5 minutes of so. The pomade was offering very little hold. About 1 hour after application I took a look at myself only to see that my hair had become very wavy and that bangs could not be held in place. The shine on the other hand was that of an oil based pomade. That makes sense since castor oil is the ingredient in the second largest amount. The castor oil definitely makes for nice and silky hair. It is totally touchable!
Height and hold are the two main things that brought me and keep me at the Pomade Party. This product only offers limited capabilities in those departments and as such is not a winner for my mop. Shine is also not a big item in my objectives. I am happiest with strong hold and light to medium shine pomades. It might be important to clarify that the hold here is not entirely absent. It is just too mild for my naturally thick and wavy hair. I suspect it would do very well for straight hair.
The pomade concoction is of a nice quality and if you are looking for a water based pomade with high shine, this will be a fine choice. This would be for the guys who normally use an oil or grease based pomade, but who don’t want to deal with the extra burden and challenge of the wash thereafter. If you are after the high shine and want more “hold”, adding some hair spray will certainly help.
Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or the level of shine.
- Hold: 2.5
- Shine: 5
- Texture: 4
- Feel in hair: 4
- Facility to wash out: 4
