Bluebeards Revenge Shaving Cream
A little while back I came across the Bluebeards Revenge brand while searching various shaving creams. After checking out their web page and watching their YouTube video Bluebeards Revenge Informercial where a barber does a shaving demo with a regular razor, then a safety razor and finally a cut throat blade using this shaving cream and praising it (Yes, I know it was an infomercial – but it was good. Watch it!) – I figured that I should get a jar and try it too.
Finding it in Canada was a bit more challenging. I ended up finding it on eBay.ca from a UK seller. The location of the seller is actually a pretty important thing to note because the Canadian and British postal service have a fairly unique and extremely efficient arrangement. To date, my experience has been anywhere between 3-7 days to get something from the UK delivered to my door. Note that the French postal service has a service equally impressive in case you are buying something in France. By comparison, getting something from the US can be anywhere between 5-35 days. I will further comment that this UK based eBay seller was offering the shaving cream at $15 including shipping. I got it in 5 days. In my books that is impressive.
When I got the jar I was impressed by the packaging. Nothing wildly fancy, but proper. A tin lid with the brand logo stamped in along with a sturdy plastic container.
Upon opening the jar you are presented with a white cream. For the purpose of this review, I will say that the cream is unscented since whatever scent it has is so faith that we might as well say that there is no scent. In my mind that is a good things, as I don’t want all my shaving products to be perfumed. It keeps it clean and simple. On contact it offer just a slight resistance and then it almost feels like a butter. On the face, the cream itself was surprising in the sense that it feels very much like a soap as opposed to a cream. That being said, the soap illusion stops there. Very quickly its creamy qualities reveals themselves. It goes on fairly thick but a little is enough to cover your face. Perhaps the size of a nickel was enough to do the job. After applying the cream with my fingers, my skin felt insulated (the moisture from the shower was trapped) and protected.
Onto the shave. The cream offers excellent glide and protection. It felt like a top notch cream. Something to note, I have found in the past that similar products tend to be extremely hard to rinse out of the razor. The Bluebeards revenge cream is not one of those. In fact, this is where comparing it to soap become relevant again – it rinses out of the razor just like a soap does making the shaving process quick, easy and comfortable. For the records, a Gillette Proglide fusion was used for this test.
Above I mention that I applied the cream with my fingers. I should say that I have also tried applying this cream with an old school badger hair brush. Maybe I don’t have that technique down path, but in my mind the brush does not do as a good of a job as just plunging my digits in the jar and putting it on.
As far as a shaving cream goes, this one is a 5 stars for me.
PS – They also make a pomade, which has been ordered and should be in my mailbox this week. Looking forward to trying this one out.
