LORD Platinum Razor Blade

LORD DE Blade

As part of my double edge razor blade sampler pack, were a good number of LORD blades. This morning I tried the LORD platinum.

TEST STAGE

  • State: Right out of the shower
  • Razor: Merkur 180
  • Blade: LORD Platinum
  • Pre-Shave: Proraso white
  • Shaving Cream: Proraso white foam
  • After Shave: Proraso white lotion

This blade does not disappoint.  It is comfortable and sharp.  For the past few days I had been working with Shark blades and as comfortable as they were, they felt like “one-timers”.  In other words, by the end of the shave some of the cream could not be rinsed off and the blade was feeling somewhat done.  I made a comment in my previous post about the sampler pack where all the brands contained within it were from the same manufacture and that I was expecting them to all be more or less the same.  Well, in that sense the Shark and Lord are quite comparable.  No nicks, no cuts and overall very comfortable.  I found that the Lord blade is perhaps a tad sharper and as such I am thinking that it is more than a “one-timer”.  It was also a bit easier to rinse out.   I usually loosen the razor so that  the water can rinse out the cream in between passes.  The Lord blade rinsed better than the Shark blade, which makes me think it may have an extra coating of something aiding in this department. Once the job completed, my skin felt well shaved and there was no irritation.

Plainly put, I like this blade and it performed well.

Thinking that this blade had at least a second shave left in it, it was re-used this morning.  The shave itself was trouble-free, but I realized a bit later on that my skin was irritated in the neck area.  This would indicate that using the blade more than once is not advised.  Note that the blade and razor were thoroughly rinsed out after the first shave.  The 3 piece razor was loosen to make sure that water could flush out all of the shaving cream.  I don’t push this process to the point of taking the razor apart and than washing the blade separately.  Not only would that be a bit challenging but it’s taking it too far in my opinion.  When compared to a cartridge blade, I would of done nothing more than rinse it out after the shave and let it dry.  The principle should still apply to a double edge blade.

In short, this takes nothing away from this blade but it is a: “One-timer”.
