Authenticity Perfumes Signature Fragrance
Authenticity Perfumes has made its way into some of my favorite fragrances with the timeless classic that is Barbershop and the latest release: Silver Luxe which is coconut bliss. That said, this house started out with another fragrance that I had not yet experienced, their signature “Authenticity”.
I am a simple man and I like fragrances that trigger straight forward emotions or mood. In that respect, I also like fragrances that are not overly complicated.
Authenticity initially comes across as a typical modern men’s cologne. I say initially, because almost immediately after it revealed a considerably more interesting arrangement. Many of the fragrances I have explored and featured as of late have been true to themselves throughout the wear. In other words, I could smell all of the participants without having the fragrance mutate within minutes or hours. What the educated noses refer to as the “dry down”.
With Authenticity, what you get on that first spray is a touch of alcohol, patchouli, cedar and sandalwood. Within less than a minute a much softer, sweeter and original side is revealed: grapefruit, pineapple, orange and a slight touch of distant lemon bitterness. I suspect that my nose is all messed up because what I smell first are the base notes (patchouli, cedar, sandalwood) and what comes next are the top notes (grapefruit, pineapple…). Regardless, it works and is very enjoyable.
Being an impatient nature, I am thrilled that this sweeter side came to life as quickly as it did as it retained my vivid interest. The other noses in my quarantined life are my wife and son. Mrs. Style4men being asthmatic, I try to be careful to not trigger any attacks by over doing it. She’s also not shy to tell me when I am working with something she doesn’t like. With Authenticity, I got a very clear and happy; Yuuumm! This was seconded by Junior who also concurred. Junior is perhaps the tougher audience as in his opinion all colognes more or less smell the same. Up until recently he had only been exposed to the mass market fragrances from the big houses and up to some extent I would agree with him.
But with “niche fragrances” the ride is pure! There is considerably less noise, less alcohol and more to the point a whole lot more actual “fragrance”. The first time you encounter a fragrance from a niche Perfumer might turn out to be a bit of an awakening. Instead of being presented with something that is immensely diluted in alcohol, it’s like running across a pastry shop or flower shop. It’s a pure and honest experience that sparks unexpected pleasures.
Being an eau de parfum, you are getting excellent value for your money with a fragrance that has solid staying power. My 2-3 shots are lasting in the ball park of 4 hours.
The Authenticity signature fragrance fits into the classic men’s space for a cologne. I am not saying that a lady wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but rather that the arrangement fits into our collective conscious of what a men’s fragrance smell’s like. Considering that Authenticity is the first and the signature arrangement we can assume that the noses behind the brand wanted to show what they were capable of without straying too far off.
Above I refer to Authenticity as being a classic concoction. Don’t take that as boring or unimaginative. Quite to the contrary! It is in fact a very subtle way of sneaking up on us. Disguising itself as something everyone knows and when its made its way to the middle of the heard, it reveals a true and original beauty to the delight of all.
In closing, Authenticity is an original find that you will not regret. The folks at Authenticity are in the process of retiring their 30 ml bottle in favor of a larger 50 ml along with a new look. Considering how good of a fragrance this is, a larger bottle makes perfect sense.
