DEMETER Fragrance Library – OUD
If you have been with me long enough you already know that I love the DEMETER Fragrance Library. Last summer I got to try and feature 5 of their amazing fragrances. We’re doing the same this summer with 5 new fragrances
The first of that sprint will be their OUD! Read that as: OMG! It smells like sweet woody bliss. I would even venture to say that it reminds me of some of the better chocolate I have had the pleasure to eat.
Every big name perfumer out there offers an Oud concoction, but generally speaking although oud is mentioned in the name on the bottle it is far from being alone. Obviously, the Perfumers game is to arrange palettes of aromas and making a fragrance with only one scent might be…defeating the objective. This is where I differ. I like embracing one maybe two elements that are so perfectly rendered that adding anything else would just be noise taking away from that primary pleasure. This is in fact what I love about DEMETER. It’s one thing done so well that you are pulled into its trance. Their slogan: Simple, subtle, singular scents! Words I can get behind!
Demeter’s oud is derived from the agar wood resin. It is sweet, rich, warm and woody. It is a comfortable scent, peaceful…while at the same time being perfectly elegant. There is no doubt that you will recognize this as a participant in countless men’s cologne. I will say that on its own, it is even more stunning. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be going through this bottle rather quickly and will need to replace it with the bigger 100 ml one.
Longevity: One shot on my arm is still recognizable 8 hours later
Projection: Being a moderate user, I am going with 2-4 shots and although it is undeniably identifiable it remains close to the wearer. In that sense it is exactly the way I like it, something for the intimate circle.
If you like; tobacco, amber, vanilla, or sandalwood, oud will tickle your nose just right. I find it to be a fantastic olfactory experience and am immersing myself in it.
In short, you can smell oud..pardon me; smell good for a fraction of the cost of a designer bottle.
