Inspired Fragrances by Zoha Aroma
Continuing on our fragrance exploration, we wanted to try out some scents by Zoha Aromas of Toronto (Canada). Zoha offers a custom sample pack, where you get 6 atomizer bottles of 3 ml each for under $20 CND.
Being more of the “Gourmand” type of nose, I was thrilled to be able to find a number of fragrances that appealed to me so I placed an order with them.
Here are the fragrances I ordered and my first impressions:
- Epitome: Caramel, Honey, Cinnamon
- Al Hejaz: Sweet, Fresh, Cherry, Vanilla
- Eidolon: Complex, Burnt Wood, Sweetness
- Cherisé: Maraschino cherries
- Citron Noire: Classic, Fresh, Lime
- White Leather: Leather, Almond
I am pleased to report that I am not disappointed with any of the 6 purchased fragrances.
My next observation is something I keep repeating to myself, oil based fragrances and indie perfumes are a total un-encumbered joy for the nose. There are no other ingredients competing or masking the beauty of the raw creation the Perfumer is trying to achieve. With typical mass-market fragrances, there is often an element of commonality and the big kick of alcohol. Here, the scent is pure. Since I essentially selected gourmand fragrance, the aromatic pleasure is also very close to the pleasure of food.
It is rather important to mention that most of these fragrances are what is referred to as “Impressions”. In other words; an interpretation of another fragrance. Or if you prefer, a copy. I will also add that I am not comparing these “impressions” against their inspirations. This is simply, what I got out of them on first contact.
Projection
As I have not gone a full day with each of these fragrances (but I will) I will simply provide an overall observation. Being a very moderate user, read that as 2-3 sprays, I was able to enjoy the fragrance on myself clearly and it reached outwards to perhaps 1 M. As the aromas are so pure, I would venture that projection is considerably larger if you were to use more.
Duration
Again as the fragrance elements are so clear, the die down period is not one where the fragrance changes as some elements fade before other. It remains constant and is well within the 2-4 hours range. Again, keep in mind that I am a moderate user. Spray more and we assume that it will also last longer.
Packaging
A small mention on the labels for the samples, the printing is rather faded and you might consider putting some sort of marker so you can tell which is which.
Here is how Zoha Aroma presents these fragrances:
Epitome is inspired by Xerjoff 1861 Naxos
- NOTES: Tobacco, Honey, Tonka Bean, Lavender, Vanilla, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Cashmeran, Jasmine and Lemon.
Al Hejaz is inspired by Roja Dove Kingdom
- NOTES: Strawberry, Plum, Banana, Rose, Apple, Raspberry, Leather, and Agarwood.
Eidolon is inspired by Kilian Black Phantom
- NOTES: Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Rum, Coffee, Sugar Cane, Almond, Sandalwood, and Heliotrope.
Cherisé is inspired by Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry.
- Notes: Sour Cherry, Liquor, Almond, Peru Balsam, Tonka Bean and Sandalwood.
Citron Noire is inspired by Roja Dove Elysium Pour Homme.
- NOTES: Vetiver, Grapefruit, Black Currant, Ambergris, Juniper, Lemon, Bergamot, Lime, Apple and Cedar.
White Leather is in fact an in-house creation and is the fragrance that attracted me to Zoha Aroma in the first place.
- NOTES: Chocolate, Vanilla, Whiskey, Amber, Tobacco, Leather, and Agarwood.
If I had to some favorites, it would be the White Leather and Cherisé although this is not necessarily an easy choice nor a choice that would survive the week as I might pick another favorite.
I will mention that this is the second or third “impression” wave of fragrances I try and it is the best of them all. In short, getting these samples feels like only the first event of a longer relationship.
