Pistachio Ice Cream
As far as fragrances go, I have deep weakness for arrangements that fall in the “Gourmand” space.
I recently found myself wondering if anyone had made a “pistachio” based fragrance. This led me to the one by DS&D URGA, but at $300 a bottle, my wallet slapped me and said keep walking!
Then I was reminded of DEMETER’s Fragrance Library. Sure enough there was a Pistachio element. “Pistachio Ice Cream” actually. Even better! Back in 1991 I spent some time in Italy and on one particular day in Torino, the kick was to stop at every gelato spot we came across and have a scoop of pistachio flavor to determine which was the best.
This simple approach to tourism made for a lasting memory and needless to say that this bottle by DEMETER caresses my “gourmand” pleasure center in a very nice way.
For my nose, DEMETER’s interpretation is just perfect. A single spray brings me back to Torino. IMO pistachio is perhaps one of the most interesting nuts because its scent signature is a tad more complex. The fragrance opens with a woody moss wrapped in sweetness on a bed of nutty pistachio.
In an unexpected way, I would say that it reminds me of sweet tobacco at a structural level. It’s not the same thing at all, but it is hitting a similar place in my scent library.
Projection is good as this fragrance isn’t trying to hide. On the duration side, I am conflicted because I get the impression that I can no longer smell my 3-4 sprays after about 2-3 hours. Now is that because I am one with the fragrance and my nose is saturated. I’m not sure, but oddly enough 2 local squirrels have adopted me since I started wearing this. Whatever, I am reaching for the bottle for another spray while no one is looking.
When to wear this? The sweetness makes it very friendly and easy to wear, so in that light this can easily become a go-to bottle. The woody-nut gives it a more serious composure which would suggest, a soirée or the office. To me this is a unique, warm and sexy fragrance that could be worn at any time and will leave people wondering why they want to get closer.
As a side note, what draws me to DEMETER’s Fragrance Library is the way they manage to capture a specific scent experience so perfectly. The recurring statement when opening a bottle is: OMG that’s exactly it!
