Sex & Cigars by Mammoth Beard
First off, I am all about niche fragrances. The main stream party is way too busy with an abundance of fragrances that are often very similar.
Mammoth Beard – Sex & Cigars is outside that very busy path. The Sex & Cigars name creates a visual and a certain expectation. The first two aromas I identify are patchouli and bergamot. I want to say that there is sweet tobacco in there but I am starting to doubt myself as it is faint and not in the top or middle notes. There might also be a touch of leather in there. That said, I conclude we are focussing on the “Sex” portion of the fragrance since the tobacco is further behind. Presented with a choice between sex and cigars, things are rather simple.
What are these aromas?
Patchouli is intense, earthy and somewhat dirty. Bergamot is more of a fresh and crisp thing. While sweet tobacco is a rich, green, flavourful and caressing aroma.
Coming back to my earlier comment about niche fragrances, Sex & Cigars is not a typical perfume arrangement that you could just pick up at your local pharmacy. This is totally off the beaten path. It is deep, intense and sweet.
- Projection: 1-2 metres
- Longevity: 3 – 5 hours (Note that I am a moderate user 1-3 sprays)
The fragrance remains identifiable and true to itself, while loosing of it projection over the course of wearing it.
When developing a fragrance there isn’t necessarily always the same effort invested in the bottle. Mammoth did the work and the results are stunning. This is in fact what initially drew me in. The painted vintage design creates a late 1800’s narrative which I totally buy into. Such a bottle is rather uncommon in the niche fragrance market where the standard stock rectangular glass bottle is the norm. The finished product stands out and is perfect for this fragrance.
In short, Sex & Cigars is an original find that will appeal to those looking for a classic and vintage vibe.
