SITTING IN A NEW CHAIR
On Saturday I was lucky enough to sit in Tanya’s chair for a cut.
Our paths initially crossed on Instagram through obvious shared interests.
So here I am at her shop!
First off, Tanya runs her Barbershop from home. The bulk of the living room/dining room space has been repurposed to support the business into a waiting room, washing station and the obvious barber chair and cutting space. And kudos to her, because it doesn’t look or feel like a home business. It feels and looks like a men’s hair grooming spot (i.e. not your Mom’s or sister’s kitchen).
Tanya has a positive and friendly aura about herself which makes for easy communication. When I arrived for my appointment another patron was getting the final touches to his cut and I was delighted to witness that the Barbershop vibe was alive and well with a respectful integration of all parties into the conversation.
By the time I got into the chair, a meticulous analysis of my hair situation was conducted along with a conversation of what I wanted; a refresh of my pomp (short sides and back with good length on top for some height).
Tanya started by trimming the sides and followed by a hair wash before moving onto a detailed cutting of the top. During which an enthusiast conversation was had about barbering, her parcours as a Stylist and then as a Barber, the region, products, our respective Instagram profiles and so on.
The cut was finished with something that I see as a defining “Barbershop” event, which is to shave the back hairline with a straight edge razor. Automatic 5 points in my book!
Being a “Product Guy”, I want to mention that Tanya used both a salt spray and pomade from the STMNT range for which she had proper display for her clientele.
All’n all a great visit and cut. Looking forward to sitting in her chair soon.
