BOARDWALK does it again with their Styling Cream and Hair Spray
BOARDWALK has recently launched its new Styling Cream. I got a tube of this medium hold – matte finish fixative a bit before Christmas and finally got around to trying it. Thank you to our friends At Boardwalk for their support. Hair cream generally offers a “natural” looking result and that is what drew me to hair creams. But thus far, I have not been all that lucky with hair creams. All of the cream-like products I have tried have been a little greasy and have offered limited hold. This morning this perception of hair creams was flung out the window! BOARDWALK does it again by bringing yet another fabulous product to the party.
After my morning shower I towel dried my mop and then blew it dry with a bit of salt spray to give it some volume. Adding salt spray has been my new approach for the last few months. In so many words, I am enjoying high pomps and salt sprays make that possible. But salt sprays only does the volume part of the job. A proper fixative has to be included to give the whole thing some style. This is where the BOARDWALK hair cream comes in. Being wiser from past experiences with cream, I poured myself a very small amount. I spread that small portion by rubbing my hands together and moved onto the application.
This creams is a joy to work with. First off, you are greeted by the fabulous BOARDWALK signature beach fragrance. The cream is soft and spreads well for an even distribution in the hair. The cream is appropriately sticky without being unmanageable like clay’s and muds can be. Your working time with the product is comparable to pomade. In other words, it doesn’t dry midway through the application. Lastly, it is not greasy or heavy. This is perhaps what I enjoyed the most about it, the lightness of this product. The cream being so light and the salt spray having given my hair some good volume, the end results was a superb quiff.
TEST STAGE:
- State: Out of the shower with towel dried hair
- Pre-Styling: John Frieda Salt Spray and cold hair dryer
- Pomade: BOARDWALK Styling Cream
- Hairspray: BOARDWALK Style Lock Hair Spray
In the process of leaving for work, I had to pick up a number of things around the house and came to realize that my bangs came out of place like a large coil. I put everything back in place, but it was clear that this wasn’t going to survive any activities. This turned out to be the perfect opportunity to try the companion BOARDWALK hairspray.
There are a number of things I like about this spray:
- This bottle is equipped with a pomp to distribute the product, thus using physics to produce the mists as opposed to chemistry. Using less chemicals is both good for the environment and for your hair.
- Since this is a pomp action bottle as opposed to an aerosol, the bottle is smaller and I suspect you are also getting more product. I would have to examine the ratio of product to gas in an aerosol bottle to confirm that.
- By going a none-aerosol route, BOARDWALK is not contributing additional carbon gas to the greenhouse effect. Typically, aerosol hairsprays use hydrofluorocarbons.
- The bottle being smaller we are also making less of a footprint environment wise
- As with other BOARDWALK products, Aloe Vera is the main ingredient.
- The spray also has that awesome BOARDWALK scent.
This is perhaps more of a comparative observation, but I found the BOARDWALK bottle and pomp action to be easier to work with than a traditional aerosol can. The light and wide midst offered perfect coverage. I find it hard to gauge the pressure rate and directional coverage when using a hairspray can. The bottle configuration is a better design where the pomp action top nozzle is large and stable making it secure and comfortable in your hand.
Back to styling: Perhaps 4 squirts was enough to lock my quiff in place. This style stayed with me for a full 8 hours with no touch ups! For my hair length, weight and thickness the hair cream alone was not enough for a finished style, but add in the hairspray companion and we have a winning look.
Both of these products are water soluble. We can’t say “Water based” since water has been substituted with a hair and skin rock star: Aloe Vera. If you haven’t heard about the benefits of Aloe Vera check this site out FOOD.NDTV.COM or check some of my other posts.
Since I used both products together, the below rating is to be taken that way.
Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or the level of shine.
- Hold: 4.5
- Shine: 3
- Texture: 5
- Feel in hair: 4
- Facility to wash out: 5
In closing, the BOARDWALK hair cream is a welcomed addition to the product line by offering a smoother type of hair fixative to their solid pomade offering. The BOARDWALK hairspray on the other hand is somewhat of a discovery and is my new favorite hairspray.
