DASHU Extreme Red Pomade – A Total Find!
Overall Style4Men.ca score:
As part of the Style4men.ca project I buy a good deal of pomades and shaving products. Often, just out of curiosity or based on past positive experiences I am hoping to repeat. Today’s pomade is the Extreme Red Pomade from DASHU (Hair Wax). This product is made by the South Korean company; Hair Wax. The retro-slick look of this jar had caught my eye almost a year ago. But with the changing availability and pricing I only got around to purchasing a jar from a Korean seller on eBay a few weeks back. This seller is: Muto Korea
I paid $12 US dollars for the jar along with free shipping. Delivery was done in 9 days. I know?! Amazing! And there were no unpleasantries with customs. I think that as long as you keep things under the $20 mark, you are in that tax free zone. The packaging was simple but efficient. A basic protective plastic pouch where the pomade jar was bubble wrapped inside. The jar itself, as you can see in the pictures, came through completely un-harmed. Would I buy through this seller again? – Certainly!
This pomade fits in my “I must have one of these jars” list. Presentation is not necessarily an indication of what you will find inside, but with this Extreme Red, the cool packaging lived up to the suggestion! The DASHU jar will most likely appeal to the: retro-vintage-rockabilly-speedster type. I guess I fit in that generalization! 🙂
For my taste, the packaging and presentation make it a winner. The proper aluminum jar is also a nice distinguisher from plastic tubs. At 100 g, it fits right into the standard portions you get from most pomade manufacturers. For a daily usage, 100 g lasts me some 2-3 months. I will admit that since launching Style4Men I rarely reach the bottom of a jar just because I am regularly trying new products. That being said, there are a few jars that see more actions than others and I group those in my #Favorite pile where this Extreme Red is heading.
Hair Wax, under the DASHU branding, makes 3 pomades:
- Classic – Incredible Shine
- Classic – Original Gold
- Classic – Extreme Red
Aside from the slick packaging, you might ask why I might have been looking into such a pomade? A few months ago I tried out a phenomenal product from Malaysia, the Gonzo pomade. This pretty much paved the way or confirmed that I had to try more Asian pomade and the DASHU pomade seamed like a great place to continue on that path. I also looked into the volume of positive sales for this pomade. The feedback was good and people were pleased with this product. At $12 US with free shipping on eBay it also just sold itself!
Every now and then we come across something that is just impressive. The DASHU pomade is such a thing. My uppercut is rather long and not every pomade holds it together for the full day. In fact, the combined weight of the hair and the pomade is kind of shortening the longevity of my morning styling. It seams that on a good day I can get to about 2 PM before needing to do something. The DASHU goo held it together until 6 PM. A rocking pomade in my books! I bought the Extreme Red in hopes of repeating the Gonzo experience and the short version is that it’s just as good and as strong.
DASHU self proclaims their product to be a strong hold and high shine with their 5 stars rating. I can certainly attest that the strong hold is true and that is what I was hoping for. The shine is nothing like a grease base pomade, but for a water based pomade, it’s a shinier than others. A nice healthy look.
This is a very easy product to work with. Slightly firm on contact but let’s itself be spread without effort. I think this speaks to the freshness of the pomade. It goes in the hair smoothly. No pulling or excessively fast drying. The pomade is also quite light and I was able to sport a fabulous pomp. I still can’t believe how long it lasted without any help. Often, I need to lock things in with hair spray. Not here – it worked like a big boy all on its own. 🙂
Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or the level of shine.
- Hold: 5
- Shine: 4.5 (for a water based pomade)
- Texture: 5
- Feel in hair: 5
- Facility to wash out: 5
Like most pomade, this goo has a fragrance. To my nose it is fruity but very mild. It reminded me of perhaps the lychee fruit. Maybe rose and pear. I really can’t quite put my finger on it, but it is a simple fruit like scent.
This picture of the ingredient label might be somewhat irrelevant if, like me you cannot read Korean. Below is what I can get using Google translate. As you can see, it’s okay for the ingredients, but for the rest it’s a bit of an unorganized string. The good thing is that we are not seeing parabens
All’n all, I am totally impressed with this pomade! I didn’t know what to expect, but I am very glad I gave it a try.
