Hair Styling Powder by Slick Gorilla
Over the course of the Style4men.ca project, I have certainly gotten to try an incredible amount of cool products. Obviously, pomade was a revelation some years back, but that said texturizing or volumizing products represent a discovery in their own regards.
Before we get into it, I want to give a shout out and thank you to Cierra at Classic Barber Products who is the distributor of Slick Gorilla for making this review possible.
OK let’s put things into context. As things stand, using pomade you are able to do some mighty stuff with what nature gave ya, but you never really manage to get that phenomenal volume that other guys are able to pull off. The quick answer is that those guys know about texturizing-volumizing products. Before you click out of this page, know this: It’s super easy to add to your routine and it won’t affect your testosterone production. In fact, it might push things in over-drive as a result of how handsome you will be. 🙂
So there are a few kinds of texturizing products out there. Salt spray is perhaps the most common and its does a great job. There are then a number of pump-spray bottles that will call themselves volumizer or texturizers. They are essentially a different take of salt spray as they will use another ingredient combination to do what salt does. Last but not least, there are styling powders. Powders are perhaps the oldest form of texturizing products. That said, the powders of yesterday have little in common with the new breed of powders available today.
The Slick Gorilla styling powder fits in that modern space. It caught my attention because there aren’t that many powder for men out there. And, well that gorilla is pretty darn cool.
So how do you use this stuff? Super easy and I am glad you are still around. Wash your hair and then dry it. Once dry, shake a few shots into your mope and tousle things around and comb. Simple enough? Be fully aware that this will not constitute a finished styling unless you are going for that out of bed look. If that is what you want, enjoy Dude, you’re done! For those of use looking for a more finished look, now is time to pull out your usual pomade, paste or clay.
The powder will have created serious volume in your hair by bounding things together a little. The reason why this works is that your pomade will be able to style things into place but won’t be able to take to volume out. I usually want to create a big pomp. Using just pomade I can’t achieve that. Using the Slick Gorilla Styling powder and then a pomade, I can get there and then some.
This powder is essentially unscented and will thus not collide with anything else. It worked well with both pomade and paste in my tests. Last but not least, the whole thing washes out under the shower.
In closing, the simplicity of usage and portability of this powder makes it a winner. You can’t go wrong.
Stay Slick!
