KING’S MANE
This review is a tad special, as it is not about a widely available product. It is hand made by an Ottawa based barber. I discovered this product by word of mouth during a spirited conversation about pomades with the folks at my hair salon, Hair Junkie on Laurier Street in Ottawa. The discussion was about pomade preferences, suitability and “availability”. The salon was no longer carrying the Suavecito brand and were looking for suggestions. The shop owner mentioned the King’s mane product as something I might like. He encouraged me to try it and give him feedback on it.
Since this barber shop was a few blocks away at the corner of Bank and Albert Street, I was able to purchase a can of King’s mane that day. It is very nicely packaged in a real thin can. As you can see above the label is stylish and regal. The product itself is somewhat firm and required some softening before being able to apply it. I would say that this is the only notch against it. The hold was very decent. The pomade dries very smoothly and gave a much softer hair look than a wet pomade for example. If you are looking for shine – this is not it. On the other hand, if you want to shape your hair to pretty much any style, than this is a real option. The scent was so discreet that I don’t remember it. From what I understood, the concoction was not water based but it washed out very well with a normal shampoo.
Overall, this was an excellent product and I was thrilled to be able to meet the maker.
It looks like the pomade is only available at stroked ego
