REUZEL’s latest ‘Clay Spray’ reinvents pre-styling
Last week I announced that we would be featuring 2 new products by REUZEL. The first review covered their impressive Beard Foam. Today we are tackling the Clay Spray. A clay that’s a spray?!? Yep!
Let’s get my bias out of the way! I am a big fan of REUZEL and this keeps being fed by original products that perform. So there you go!
Let’s jump in! The Clay Spray is not actually a clay but rather a spray that mimics the behavior of a light clay that you would use as a pre-styler. Yep, I said it: PRE-STYLER! For you guys that use one product and one product alone, know that you are missing out on some great hair days.
What is a pre-styler?
It’s a product that puts your hair in the absolute best possible condition before styling it. A pre-styler will create volume, texture and/or grit. The idea is to help shape your hair before applying the final styling product. Pre-stylers help your pomade, clay, gel or wax adhere and perform their best. You will also need less pomade.
Up to about 4 years ago I had never used a pre-styler and when I did, it was somewhat of a revelation. All of a sudden I was rocking better hair days than I ever had before. It was easier and faster to do my hair and the results were noticeably better.
OK, how do you use this stuff?!
Coming out of the shower with towel dried hair, spray a few shot of the Clay Spray and blow dry. If you are good with a brush you might be able to create a solid style foundation. I suck at it and end up looking like a long hair cat coming out of the dryer – Looney Tunes Style! That said this insane volume is a perfect foundation for a rocking pomp. Since there already is great volume, I started without about half the pomade I would have used and tada!
How does it do this texture and volume you are talking about?!
The Clay Spray creates a mild tackiness or grit. Very much in the same manner as salt-spray. Salt Spray is another amazing pre-styling solution. But in my opinion salt spray just creates grit. If you have used clay before, you know about that particular stickiness which fades away as you blow dry your hair. The Clay Spray creates a very mild amount of grit and focusses more on that tackiness which blends with the heat of the hair dryer. The result is impressive volume.
As with all REUZEL products, there is an aroma. This one is very mild and won’t stay with you very long which makes sense considering the purpose of the product. All that said, it’s nice sweet cinnamon.
Guys with thinning hair, this is something you want to look into because volume and texture also means thicker and fuller looking hair. I shit you not brothers!
The Clay Spray is one of the best pre-stylers I have tried this year. It has a mild sweet cinnamon scent. I sprayed perhaps 6 shots in my mope. Then blow dried and shaped things using a big round barrel brush. As mentioned above, a slight tackiness is created fairly quickly just as if you were using a clay. The heat of the blow dryer will help blend this in smoothly without any trouble. Once dry, I look pretty funny. A small touch of REUZEL Red pomade and I look like I just got a haircut at Schorem did they magic on me! OK maybe not that good, but pretty nice anyways!
What I liked about the Clay Spray
It’s easy to use and easy to incorporate in my hair styling routine. Clay produces amazing results, but I personally find it hard to work with. This is where the REUZEL Clay-Spray changes the game; it offers the same benefits as a proper clay without any of the hassles.
