Schwarzkopf OSIS + Aqua Slide pomade
During my last visit at Eleganza, I picked up a jar of the Schwarzkopf OSIS + Aqua Slide pomade. This morning was test time.
The jar is quite original in the sense that the lid covers the whole container. Quantity wise, we are looking at the standard 100g of schmiere. Upon opening the jar your nose is in for a treat: the scent is something of a tangerine / clementine. Sweeter and more subtle than orange! The scent dosage is also very appropriate.
I usually apply pomade right after the morning shower where I dry my hair as much as possible with a towel. Since I had washed my hair the night before, I opted for a dry application. No trouble there and as expected it did take a bit more product because of the dry hair. The texture is fairly soft for a pomade. Firmer than gel but not as firm as most other pomades out there. Generally speaking, there is often a small element of wax in the formulation. Based on the ingredient list, there is no wax. After one of two scoops I started to realize that this pomade is a very mild fixative. I couldn’t get any height and it offered very little control against rebellious curls.
Stephanie at Eleganza did mention that the Schwarzkopf OSIS line uses a graduated guide from 1-4, where 4 offers the most “control”. This pomade being a 2 on their scale, there is no real claim that it is a strong pomade.
The Schwarzkopf web site is a bit confusing and I failed find this product. Maybe you will have better luck?
For a water based product this pomade offers a surprising amount of shine. That would make sense as the second ingredient on the list is mineral oil. In comparison it shines almost as much as the oil based Black & White pomade. Click here to read that review.
Concerning cost, my jar was $15 at Eleganza.
Since there is no wax whatsoever and some oil, the feel in the hair is quite nice. You won’t mind having your hair touched.
What do I think? It is too weak of fixative for my day-to-day usage, but it does offer a pleasant softer and shinier look. It has a nice smell and it doesn’t leave a residue in your hand when touched.
Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or level of shine:
- Hold: 2
- Shine: 5
- Texture: 4
- Feel in hair: 4
- Facility to wash out: 4 (Because of the mineral oil, a tiny buildup is left behind. Your next shampoo will take care of it.)
