Sudzz Marmalade Jazz – Fantastic scent

January 8, 2017Pomades#OBSCO, #Sudzz, #WaterBase, Pomade

Before the Christmas break I stopped at OBSCO to pick up a few products.  This is when I also discovered the STEPHAN Stay Smooth shave cream.  The other product I had picked up was the Sudzz Marmalade Jazz.  Every time I visited OBSCO, the folks there suggested I try it.  OK, so I finally have a jar.

Sudzz Marmalade Jazz

In order to preserve product freshness, the OBSCO staff asks that you do not open the jars.  Respecting this I actually had no idea what to expect from this Sudzz product and I was buying this solely based on their recommendations.

This morning was time to try this stuff out.  First off, the jar is just about the same size as other typical pomade jars, but it’s content is considerably less at only 57g as opposed to the more common 100g.  The jar was purchased for something like $14 if memory serves me right.  That makes it a fairly expensive product in my opinion.  The jar itself is made of plastic with no elaborate designs or logos.  The branding is limited to the black lid where “Sudzz” is in printed in light grey.  The product name “Marmalade Jazz” is printed on the grey jar in orange which sticks out nicely.  Overall, elegant but also nothing that really sticks out.

The party starts when opening the jar.  A fantastic orange soda pop scent comes out and grabs you.  It instantly brought me back to a simpler time.  The scent is properly dosed so not to blow you away.

Then the texture of this pomade is quite firm.  Firm enough to be worthy of a strong hold mention on the jar, which there is none.  The only indication on the jar to identify the contents is: texturizing pomade.  This wording is a first for me on a pomade jar, but we will see what that equates to over time. It takes little effort to relax the pomade prior to application.  Since it was so firm on initial contact I also made sure to take very little at a time as this is usually an indication of a strong holding pomade.  And that it is.  In total I took 3-4 tiny finger scoops.  The hold is strong enough that you can consider your hair locked in for the duration.  It is not crispy, but definitely rigid.  It has a comparable hold to that of gel but more pleasant to the touch.  Note that scent is wife-approved, but not the feel in hair.

Marmalade Jazz

As it is the case with all pomades, Marmalade Jazz does not flake.

The fine print suggests a high shine.  It is a very light shine (pardon the pun).  Continuing on the label, the ingredient list is lengthy with some 27 items. Some of the more interesting ingredients are: cucumber, sunflower seed extract, parsley to name but a few.  There is also a mention that suddz products are not tested on animals.  We thus have to understand that the testing is done on greasers. 🙂

The fabulous sweet orange fragrance and strong hold make it a winner for me regardless of the initial rigid feel.

Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or level of shine:

  • Hold: 5
  • Shine: 4
  • Texture: 3
  • Feel in hair: 3
  • Facility to wash out:  5
