The full head twisting Water Based pomade by Stickmore Hair
Stickmore Hair is a California based enterprise focused on hair pomades. Exactly the stuff we like! I came across the Stickmore Hair brand about a year ago or so. The first thing to stick out was the fantastic Stickmore stylized logo and their owl! The branding is very well done and quite memorable. The “Stickmore” name is rendered in a 1700’s italicised lettering with some extra detailing as is popular among tattoo enthusiast which really sticks out. The aged background and the dark and simple colour selections brings it home. It is extremely classy, but not Princess classy. Things are done in a way that will appeal to: Greasers, Rockabillies, Bikers, Punks and wannabe’s such as myself. In so many words, Stickmore has managed to present their product line in a way that feels familiar, underground and classy all at ounce. I know! – Not a small feat!
A couple of months ago, contact was established with Stickmore to feature their product line on Style4men.ca. With a mutual passion for all things pomade, we hit things off. Shout out and thank you goes out to Cyrus for trusting us with this process.
Here is my unboxing and initial reactions on the product line.
In this review we will be commenting on the Water based pomade from Stickmore Hair. Why this one? Being a fervent water based pomade user, this is the jar that spoke the loudest to me. The slick blue labeling drew me in as well.
I typically style my mope after drying it with the dryer. More often than not I also use a bit of salt spray or texturizer to give my hair as much volume as possible before styling things in place. That being the initial canvas, I opened the blue jar of Stickmore. I found a nice clear-opaque jello like pomade. The scent of the of this pomade came rushing up as well. I have grown accustomed to sweet scented pomades with aromas of coconut and/or vanilla as recurring fragrances. The scent here is more along the lines of a strong musk. In fact at first I was a tad concerned that it might even be too much. Considering how things worked out over the course of the next few days and the fact that our asthmatic Mrs. Style4men did not have any aversions I embraced the whole thing. The positive reception of the fragrance continued at work as well. Eh?! It is also quite possible that my nose might have been moody on that first day, since I haven’t felt that same intensity in the fragrance since.
Back to the application and styling. I scooped out about the size of a nickel, relaxed it in my palms and moved onto the hair application. Back to front, side to side and finally the front. The pomade was easy to distribute and the hair was a breeze to comb. I like to use a very thigh tooth comb for my undercut (sides and back) and then the very large tooth pik comb for my uppercut. The pomade sticks well but remains very workable during the styling. I was able to produce a very nice pomp in no time and things stayed in place. It being a water based pomade, the product dries and sets a little but there is neither crunchiness nor dryness. The pomade remains workable, but go with the understanding that things are now committed. Being a lazy styler, I love pomades that are all-day participants. The Stickmore water based is exactly that.
As part of the regular business of Style4men.ca I get to work with some pretty amazing products and I share these finding on our platform. The best of the best get tallied in our top 5 once a year. Things being what they are, it’s sometimes hard to look back on the year and give full credits to all of the products that were tested. Our current product review count is at some 256 since August 2016. I want to start 2019 on the right foot and already single out a product that will make it in our top 5 for this year – the Stickmore Hair Water Based pomade.
This pomade is a true love affair! I was pulled in by its good looking dress, I had some very short lived doubts and then I was locked in by her strong embrace and swayed by her commitment to me. …I need a smoke!
Here is the rating on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is a perfect score and/or level of shine:
- Hold: 5
- Shine: 2 (water based pomade are typically not very shiny)
- Texture: 5
- Feel in hair: 5
- Facility to wash out: 5
It gets 5 stars from us!
In closing, this pomade blew me away. It is everything I enjoy about a firm hold water based pomade and more: an original and classy presentation, an elegant and manly scent, serious control without the domination BS (my nearly unmanageable hair got tamed, but not whipped) and things are done with when you rinse it out!
You should be so lucky as to have some of this pomade on the shelves of your Barbershop.
Well done Stickmore!
Look out for more reviews covering the rest of the Stickmore line.
