Dry Shampoo – The ladies secret weapon
When I started using hair tonic, it was somewhat unclear to me as to what was the real purpose of this product. Overtime, it has become a solution I turn too quite frequently. Essentially I use hair tonic as a pomade “reviver”. For example, on the morning after you don’t have time to wash your hair and a simple squirt of tonic will be enough to revive whatever pomade you have left and stretch it for a good part of the day. Basically, I turn to this when I skip a day of washing my hair. It works considerably better than water and leaves a fun scent.
This way of looking at hair revival as brought me unto totally different territory. Having mostly used gel for X number of years and pomade for the last 4-5 years, I have only really known water as a mean to restyle. Tonic was that first awakening which then brought me to become aware of “dry shampoo”. To the ladies, dry shampoo has been part of their arsenal for ions. I pretty much always assumed it was some variation of a hair spray fixative. Well, it is not! It is surprisingly more interesting and I certainly had never heard of it in the men hair care world.
I am not quite sure how I got interested in this topic; it was one of those “one click leads to another” and next thing you know I am reading about dry shampoo. Obviously, this topic is discussed at great length on the ladies side of the proverbial hair care fence. This “in style” page on the topic caught my eye. As part of their reviews, pricing was also a consideration. I was basically going to pick up the first one out of the “In Style” list I could find under $10. Their No. 7 was the Marc Anthony Morocan oil. I did not find that one but I did find another Marc Anthony product, the Clear Dry Shampoo at $10 at my local Walmart. Since I already use a Marc Anthony shampoo and am very happy with the results I had a good level of confidence continuing with this brand.
I watched a few YouTube videos on how to use dry shampoo to get an idea of how to use this and what to expect. I was obviously not expecting dry shampoo to be a substitute for an actual under the shower proper shampooing, especially considering some of the heavy pomades I might be using which would only come out with hot water and a real shampoo. No, I was seeing it as a morning revival solution. After a night on the pillow, the hair has relaxed a great deal and some restyling is needed, but it’s not necessarily a full wash and more pomade situation.
So here we go, this morning was one such situation. The morning before I had used the Johnny’s Chop Shop Sheen pomade and after a full day and had slept on it. There was little pomade left and what was there was softer. I sprayed in a few shots here and there. I worked it in. …and was blown away with the results. My hair was soft and had gained in volume. It totally looked revived! This stuff made it look like I had actually washed and styled.
I could explain how to do it, but take a peek at the two above YouTube videos to see for yourself. Keep in mind that these videos are targeted to the ladies and the amount of product used should be proportional to your hair length. My uppercut is considerably shorter than the pretty gal above..
Plainly put, women have access to a number of hair solutions in their tickle trunk to keep the magic alive. The bottle being pink should not stop you from benefiting of some of that magic once in a while too.
My closing suggestion would be to pick one of the products listed in the “In Style” top 10, since as you might guess, dry shampoos are not all created equal . We also know that price is by no means an indicator of quality.
