Shampoo and Body Wash by Elvado for Men
Continuing on the Elvado product exploration, this morning we tried out their Shampoo and Body Wash. As mentioned in the first unboxing post covering Elvado, the consistency of the fragrance across all of the products is a solid selling feature. Elvado calls this fragrance “Citrus Fusion” and it is a sweet orange bliss to my nose. The fusion qualifier is very well chosen as I could be detect sweet orange, lemon as well as tangerine in the mix.
Fragrances are a very personal thing. I love citrus fruits so this works for me. Another important aspect of aromas is their longevity. Between us, I don’t expect the fragrance of my shampoo or body wash to be replacing my cologne. Elvado has gauged this very well and the body wash will cover you for perhaps 15 – 30 minutes after the shower. The shampoo has a bit more staying power but that has more to do with how the fragrance gets trap in the hair.
Onto the “cleaning” power and we are starting with the shampoo! Up front, I will admit being very critical of shampoos as I expect them to do their thing without causing damage. This might sound like a strange statement which finds its reasoning in the common detergents that go in shampoos. These agents are needed for their cleaning power and they are very good are dissolving natural oils. Basically cleaning out the gunk you put in your hair like pomade, gel, wax, hair tonic and hair spray, but also the buildup on natural oil secreted by the hair and scalp. The catch is that these oils play a protection role and you want to clean some off, but not necessarily strip everything away.
Think of this as mouth wash. Mouth wash does a good job of killing bacteria but it can’t distinguish the bad from the good and simply wipes everything out. Coming back to our shampoo, a good shampoo will be gentle and contain a few natural oils to help restore some sort of balance in your fury top. This shampoo has these oils.
Blablabla! I know, sorry! Did I like the shampoo? This is a good shampoo with a fantastic fragrance. I keep my hair very long on top and very short on the sides in an uppercut. The top is about 7 inches long at the moment. As such I enjoy a very gentle shampoo that won’t leave things tangled. This shampoo did a great job of cleaning, but a conditioning treatment was warranted after. Sadly, I am not aware of an Elvado conditioner. At the very least I did not have one to work with for this test.
That said, they do make a beard conditioner…I could have used that. If anything beard is coarser than hair and a beard conditioner might have fabulous smoothing properties. I will keep that in mind for my next test and revisit this post.
Since I did not plan for that during the shampoo tests, I reached over for one of my usual conditioners and did a little treatment. Everything turned out beautifully. In my humble opinion guys with hair less than 4 inches long will love this shampoo and will most likely not feel the need to condition. As mentioned above, I am a bit of a demanding mofo.
Onto the body wash! I thoroughly enjoyed this product. Working with this aroma in the shower simply put me in a good mood. The product lathered up nicely and had some staying power in my spongy-wash-ball thing. It was very gentle on the skin and I would say that my skin felt refreshed and hydrated afterward. A lesser body wash will leave your skin feels itchy which is the trademark of dryness. It was also easy to rinse off. This product did a great job of moisturizing without leaving a foreign layer.
Overall, these products will please and you will certainly feel like you are working with a premium series. I also want to give Elvado bonus points for having such a large offering. Elvado covers you from head to toe. It’s very nice to find a product line with such a large array of men’s products. I really enjoy not having to mix and match.
