A perfect shaving gel
As you will notice the labelling is in Italian. “Gel trasparante da barba” Or in English: Clear shaving gel. I had seen this product advertised on the Men Essentials web site, but since there was little information, I couldn’t justify the purchase and the shipping. Recently, I was at the Nicastro’s Italian grocery store in the Ottawa Byward Market and they had it for some $9. That seemed quite reasonable. This morning was test time! First off, the gel is clear and thick. The scent is very mild and typical and somewhat un-distinctive but agreeable. The application went well. It is important to say it again, the gel is clear. That means that you don’t have much of a point of reference when you are shaving. OK back to the gel. Friends, this thing is “FABULOUS”. It is very thick and thus completely covers your skin and locks in the humidity, making for a perfect protection against the blade. When I started shaving it felt as if I was simply rolling a blade-less surface on my face. The gel is thick enough to partly stay behind after the blade as gone by, continuing to act as a protection. I have shaved with similar gel like solutions, but this is the “best”. Well worth the price and the detour to find it. But back to the shaving since we are not quite done. As mentioned above it leaves a protective film behind the blade and a wipe is necessary to remove the left overs. A simple splash would not suffice as this is a little sticky. But rest assured it dissolved well in water. I used a hot wet towel to clean my face off.
INHIBITIF
I will make a leap to the after-shave step. Obviously, an after-shave is part of the shaving process. I did not buy a companion after-shave to the above gel as I did not see one available. I tried a product that I had giving me some slight irritations in the past, but I wanted to give a few more tries to make sure it was not simply reacting with the shaving cream or possibly my skin just being difficult on that day. I went for the INHIBITIF. It turned out to be the perfect after-shave cream. It sealed in the shave and my face felt great. I am actually looking forward to shaving again tomorrow morning using these products together. INHIBITIF can be found as most Shopper’s Drug Mart.
