Leaf Shave Razor: Innovative, Sexy, Safe, Eco-Friendly, for Ladies and Gents
As you may have seen through some of my Instagram stories these past weeks, I am having the immense pleasure and luxury of trying out the Leaf Shave razor. It’s not every day that a new razor hits the street, let alone a completely new and revolutionary design.
Up front the Leaf razor stands out with a rather unique look. It is entirely different to anything else out there. Coming to us in all metal construction, it is both elegant and mechanical looking with a large knob and a series of rails. Think “Steam-punk”! I believe that this will please both men and women. To support that idea the colour selections is also geared for appeal to both genders. An achievement in itself!
Available in the following colours:
- Black
- Gold
- Silver
- Mercury
- Chrome
Continuing on the innovations, this razor is a cross between a classic metal double edge razor and a modern multi-blade. As far as I know, there are no multi-blade all steel razors on the market. Further, there are no multi-blade razors taking the classic double-edge blades. Simple and innovative!
This one feature addresses 2 items in the shaving industry: environmental responsibility and a multi-blade razor that is safe and easy to use. Let’s face it, not everyone is inclined or able to do the job with a straight razor. On the environmental front, reducing our plastic footprint is a concern we now all share. The majority of razors used are still mostly plastic. Think plastic disposable razor and plastic /steel razor heads. With the Leaf razor there is no plastic at all. The razor is all metal and the double edge blades that it takes are all stainless steel wrapped in waxed paper making the whole thing recyclable.
It’s like having a classic wet shaving razor that offers all of the bells and whistles of modern multi blade razors.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- All metal construction
- Customizable multi-blade shaving surface
- Uses readily available, economical and environmentally friendly double edge blades
- Pivoting head
On the topic of garbage, apparently in the case of disposable razor and blades they don’t get recycled. The recurring numbers you will see when searching on this will turn around something like 2 billion a year.
A really impressive feature is the multi-blade support. Most modern razor have anywhere between 2 and 6 blades, but there is nothing of the sort in a metal offering. That said, this is only a portion of the innovation. The other break-through is the 3 blade stack or housing mechanism which offers a fully customizable shave. Let’s say that 3 blades is more shaving power than you need for the job. You can adjust your number of blades to 2 or just 1. In short that is like having the perfect tool for the job every day.
The loading mechanism is a breeze to work with. I was somewhat expecting things to be a tad more complicated than they are.
As mentioned, the razor takes standard double edge blades which have to be split in 2. That part is simple enough as the blades snap with little effort and no risk. When loading these halves, you essentially drop them in the loading doors.
I have been using this razor all week and I have to say that I was totally impressed. The razor has good weight to it and is very comfortable. The matte finish along with the slightly grooved handle makes it a slip free tool. The long handle is also a welcome novelty as it is a rather rare thing among razors.
The shave is gentle and as safe as it is with modern multi blade razors. Each blade is securely housed with a minimal gap and blade exposure. Since I am sporting a beard these days, I only shave my cheeks and neck area on a daily basis. I normally do this with either a double edge or a single edge razor. The Leaf Razor offered me a perfect shave in less strokes than I have been accustomed too for this job.
The pivoting head is something I had nearly forgotten these past years and it caught me a bit off guard. That said, I got back into the grove of things in no time at all and this added flexibility was a welcomed.
Returning on the shaving surface of the razor, having worked with single edge ad double edge razors for the last few years, I appreciated not having to be as careful during the shave. This truly is a “safety razor” in the purest sense of the term. The blade angle makes for an extremely gentle and comfortable shave. In my opinion, the choice of going with 3 blades is a wise one as it reduced the number of passes needed to get the job done. It is not too many blades which often lead to ingrown hairs and the problems related to that. And lastly, it does a great job.
Rinsing shaving cream out of multi blade razor is a notoriously annoying thing and I was expecting to have to use hot water with a strong jet to clean the razor between passes – not at all. Rinsing was a synch!
I am working with the “Starter Bundle” which goes for $109. This includes: the razor, a stand, a blade disposal box, and 50 double edge blades which when split in 2 are 100 blades. Before you fall off your chair and close this page, consider how much it would cost you in blades alone for a Gillette Mach 3. The going rate on Amazon.ca for 12 cartridges is $41. If we are comparing things fairly, the 100 blades you are getting here correspond to 33 Gillette March 3 heads, which would run you a bill of $123. …and you wouldn’t have a cool all metal razors either!
If you haven’t seen the unboxing…
To sum things up, this is the razor that people have been waiting for! Original. Sexy. Safe. Eco-Friendly.
